Case Study: System Modernization Without Documentation for Rieter

Case Study: System Modernization Without Documentation for Rieter

For Rieter, a global leader in the manufacture of machinery for processing cotton and synthetic fibers, we replaced an outdated industrial system—which lacked documentation—with a modern platform over the course of 6.5 years. It monitors the performance of up to 40 machines, shift efficiency, and plant productivity in real time, and recommends how to configure the machines for peak performance.

Transcription without documentation and without any gaps

The Spider Web system ran on-premises at every Rieter plant worldwide, with no documentation, zero tolerance for downtime, and unreliable connectivity. We needed to completely rewrite it, preserve all its functions, add new ones, and build a cloud version for business presentations and trade shows. Without a specific request from the client, we designed a direct connector to the machines that bypassed the outdated middleware, allowing data to be collected faster and resulting in a simpler architecture. At its peak, 36 Artiňáci and Artiňačky were working on the project.
